ABSTRACT
Popular education in Chile began to germinate since the revolutionary processes during the decade of 1850,being the illustrated and positivists ideas the ones that showed interests for the people’s instruction. Furthermore, there are efforts on the part of the state, the church, private ones, and autonomousorganizations of artisans. This research will be focused particularly in this last institution, specifically the Sociedad de Artesanos de La Serena. The motivation for this study lies mainly inbecoming a contribution to the regional history and the scarce researches about the educator’s role in these societies.
