Organization and structure
There are three levels of school educationin Brazil, with several grades in each level: 1. Fundamental education (mandatory) 2. Middle education (not mandatory) 3. Higher education

1. Fundamental education I and II (mandatory) – 9 years  

Age 6-14 – Free 1st - 5th grade – Age 6-10 (Fund. I) 6th – 9th grade – Age 11-14 (Fund II)

2. Middle education (not mandatory) – 3 years
 

10th-12th grade Age 15-17 – Free

3.Higher education
 

Graduate degrees Free at public universities

Description of Education system in Brazil
Pre-school Maternal – 1 stage – 2nd stage
 Optional (aid - children under 6)  Childdevelopment  Motor, cognitive and social skills  Day nurseries for children under 2  Kindergarden for 2-3 years old  Pre-schools for children 4 and up  Public pre schools are free Fundamental Education (I –II) – 9 years
 Achievement of literacy  Core curriculum  Portuguese language – History – Geography – Science – Mathematics – Arts, and Physical Education –  Four last grades:English

Middle Education – 3 years
 Finish fundamental education to enroll many teachers as subjects  Core curriculum  Portuguese language – Braziliand and Portuguese literature - History –Geography Mathematics – Physics – Chemistry – Biology – Philosophy and Sociology  Foreign languages: English and Spanish  Professional training (e.g. agriculture)optional
