Education or Experience? What weights more at the time of recruitment.
The subject to many debates throughout the years, and countless papers written isstill an enigma to many. Education clearly provides a person with tools that will be necessary in a day to day operation, however, it is the experience that will help them on making sound decisionsto situations that a college education may not foresee. What could be king at the time of considering a candidate for a position will all depend.
Many big names will come to mind when arguing infavor of experience, and I mean big names, like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, both were college dropouts, still able to succeed greatly in life, however, not all professions could give a person withexperience and no education the opportunity for advancement. Yet having the education and no experience will be difficult at the time of that first job opportunity. Although, once able to obtain that firstopportunity a person with the education is often perceived as someone with the analytical and logical skills for a specific job. (Sanderson, T., 2011).
On the other hand, there are jobs where adegree is a must, like a surgeon, a licensed engineer, where a person will need a degree in order to even be considered for an interview. For many employers a degree could mean also abilities likeproblem solving, intelligence, credibility, etc., not necessarily true, but based on the line of business and organization’s culture, these may be a decision making tool for hiring a person.
