Argentina is a South American country with apopulation of thirty one million people.
Argentina’s capital is Buenos Aires wich is one of the largest cities in South
America (123helpme).
Although Argentina's official language is Spanish,Argentinian Spanish is
different from the Spanish spoken in Spain. In some ways it sounds more like Italian than
Spanish (kwintessential).
Probably the best known manifestation of Argentine popularculture is the tango - a dance and
music which has captured the imagination of romantics worldwide. Folk music is also thriving.
Sport is extremely important to the Argentines and soccer is more ofa national obsession than a
game. Argentina won the World Cup in 1978 and 1986, and the exploits of Diego Maradona,
(the most famous Argentinian since Che Guevara) have kept soccer fans, paparazziand
columnists busy for the past ten years (tds)
Argentinian sculpture and painting was influenced by European styles in the 19th century, but
distinctive Argentinian artistic styles emerged inthe 20th century. One popular group of young
Argentinians to come out of the 1970s was the "New Image Painters." Their paintings display
familiar objects from daily life in unusual contexts. Theviewer must make up a story to account
for the picture ( EDS).
Beef is the national dish of Argentina. There are huge cattle ranches in Argentina, and
the gaucho, or Argentine cowboy, is awell-known symbol of Argentine individualism.
Many dishes contain meat, but prepared in different ways. A favorite main course is parrillada, a
mixed grill of steak and other cuts of beef. Grilled steakis called churrasco , a beef roast cooked
over an open fire is called asado , and beef that is dipped in eggs, crumbs, and then fried is
