MAKING AN ALLIANCE

TERMS OF REFERENCE
This report has been commissioned by Frank Barnes, CEO of TransWest Airlines Company.
The intention is giving information about the possibilitiesand advantages of making an aerial alliance between this company and Air Pacifica.
The report has to be submitted by 22nd May.

PROCEDINGS
The information for this report has been given by AnaValdez, Management Consultant in Epstein Consulting Group, specializing company in helping to make alliances.

FINDINGS
TransWest Airlines
At present TransWest Airlines executes flights around thewhole European and American geography, but at the moment it has a clear aim: to carry out its expansion all over the world.
Air Pacifica
Air Pacifica is a company with head office in Hong Kong. It is agreat airline with a great reputation, but it needs to expand its action in the market getting to new destinations: it wants to reach the United States.

Ana Valdez, specialist in airline alliances,has been hired by both companies in order to study the possibilities of the alliance between them.
During the last year the number of alliances among companies has seen an important growth. Thoughit is true that one third of those alliances fail within three years, Ana Valdez guarantees that an alliance can survive and be successful if three concepts are taken into consideration:
✓ Createa safe environment
✓ Share information
✓ Communicate

For these two companies she thinks which there will be many advantages on the fusion:
a) TransWest and Air Pacifica will be ableto get their companies to other continents: TransWest could act in Asia and Air Pacifica would reach the US market. Being able to operate into new destinations is one of the main reasons to make analliance.
b) Drop costs: relying on the services of the allied companies means no need to do high new investments to grow.
