Abstract

In this project It is required to Design a cable and pulley system for a elevator, and estimate the material cost. They are several requirement required by the client, among them, amaximum weight of 500 lb, be lifted y = 20 ft, starting from rest and then stopping after 6 seconds. During any lift or descent the acceleration should not exceed 10 ft/s2. This figures lead to a velocityof 3.33 ft/s2, a tension of[pic]. The force must have the motor to move the elevator at that speed is[pic].

1. Introduction

An elevator or lift is one of themost common facilitator of human to a vertically transport vehicle that efficiently moves people or goods between floors of a building. This invention has the first appear to us has an elevator is inthe works of the Roman architect Vitruvius, who reported that Archimedes built his first elevator. They are generally powered by electric motors that either drive traction cables and counterweightsystems, or pump hydraulic fluid to raise a cylindrical piston.

The method chosen and under analysis to work the elevator is the traction elevator that consist of geared traction machines that aredriven by AC or DC electric motors. That attaches cables and a pulley system to the motor.
