What is abortion?
It is the painful interruption of the physiological process of pregnancy, by causing death to the fetus inside or outside the mother´s womb.
There are two types of abortion:
Theinduced abortion is to cause disruption of vital development of the fetus, for disposal, with or without medical assistance, and in any social or legal circumstance. Spontaneous abortion isdistinguished, because presents in a natural way or is provoked by an accident.
The Abortion can be induced in many ways, and the way chosen depends of the gestation or the development moment of the fetus, ofthe mother´s health, of the social and economical context where the decision has to be taken, etc; for example:
Chemical of pharmacological abortion, which consist on the interruption of the fetus´sdevelopment and it´s elimination by the birth canal, this by using a pharmaceutics combination. This method can only be used in the first pregnancy weeks.
This type of procedure its preferred to beused every time it is possible to use it, because requires no anesthesia or a surgery, preventing the woman to bleed and to don´t see when the fetus is taken out, which is psychologically painful forall the mothers that are not sure of their decision of doing this.
This procedure does not work after seventh week of pregnancy.
Abortion by surgery, which consists on removing the fetus by suckingit. The manual aspiration is called menstrual extraction. Can be applied just on the first weeks and does not require cervical expansion.
Physical hazards
The abortion done by sucking, curettage, oraspiration can cause an infection, cervix trauma, peritonitis, entometritis, laceration, hemorrhage, renal trauma, pelvis inflammation, embolism, thrombosis, sterility, etc.
Abortion can provokewomen to have later ectopic pregnancies, or babies with low weight, or even born dead or with serious deformities.
Damage to fallopian horns of an infection is presented.
