La Biblia no prohíbe el consumo de bebidas alcohólicas pero sí da muy fuertes indicaciones  de quemientras más lejos el hombre se mantenga de ellas, mejor es.  Los casos que tenemos en la Biblia de hombres borrachos como HYPERLINK "http://www.vidaeterna.org/esp/preguntas/index.html"NoeHYPERLINK "http://www.vidaeterna.org/esp/preguntas/index.html" (Gen. 9:21) y Lot (Gen. 19:32-35) no tuvieron muy buenos resultados.
Aunque el vino era parte de las culturas orientales y la mayoría de laspersonas lo consumían a menudo y a menudo la Biblia lo relaciona con “la abundancia, el gozo y la alegría” (Isaías 25:5; 55:1), no obstante también aconseja fuertemente en contra del consumo de bebidas alcohólicas:
