Though Translation Studies has not been completely ignored, it has been marginalized as a discipline and a profession in the English tradition. Renowned Anglophone scholars have translated and written on Translation, and countless important literary, scientific and other works have been translated intoEnglish. Still, contemporary scholars must consult scores of often obscure sources in their research, and most translation professionals, faced with such a daunting task, often choose to remain in the dark about their own professional history. Tracing the trajectory of Translation and Interpreting through history on a number of levels, in Traductografía y traductología en lengua inglesa Tailleferbegins to fill some of the theoretical and practical void in Translation Studies in the English tradition. Organized into chapters that necessarily intertwine, it begins with an historical overview of Translation Studies and its theoretical tenets, largely in the West, from Antiquity through the Twentieth Century. Then the focus shifts to texts from the Anglophone world – both theoretical and textstranslated into English. Readers discover how Translation Studies develops to become a distinct discipline. But Taillefer does not only shed light on the expansive history of the discipline, contextualizing the English tradition within the broader Western tradition, she also concisely assesses the significance of computer technology and terminology research and management in Translation, bycharting the first forays of scientists into Machine Translation to contemporary Computer-Aided Translation tools and their relevance for today’s 1
