FOREWORD
1.

The Australasian Code for Reporting of Exploration
Results, Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves (the ‘JORC Code’
or ‘the Code’) sets out minimum standards,
recommendations and guidelines for Public Reporting in
Australasia of ExplorationResults, Mineral Resources and
Ore Reserves. The Joint Ore Reserves Committee (‘JORC’)
was established in 1971 and published several reports
containing recommendations on the classification and
Public Reporting of Ore Reserves prior to the release of the
first edition of the JORC Code in 1989.
Revised and updated editions of the Code were issued in
1992, 1996 and 1999. This 2004 edition supersedesall
previous editions.
Concurrently with the evolution of the JORC Code, the
Combined Reserves International Reporting Standards
Committee (‘CRIRSCO’), initially a committee of the Council
of Mining and Metallurgical Institutions (‘CMMI’), has, since
1994, been working to create a set of standard international
definitions for reporting Mineral.
Resources and Mineral (Ore) Reserves,modelled on those of
the JORC Code.
Representatives of bodies from part icipating countries
(Australia, Canada, South Africa, USA and UK) reached
provisional agreement on standard definitions for reporting
in 1997. This was followed in 1998 by an agreement to
incorporate the CMMI definitions into the International
Framework Classification for Reserves and Resources –
Solid Fuels and MineralCommodities, developed by the
United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (‘UN ECE’).
As a result of the CRIRSCO/CMMI initiative, considerable
progress has been made towards widespread adoption of
consistent reporting standards throughout the world. These
are embodied in the similar codes, guidelines and standards

Código deAustralasia para informar resultados de
exploración, Recursos Minerales y Reservas de Mena (el
"Código JORC" o "el Código") establece las nor mas
mínimas, recomendaciones y pautas para la notificación
pública en Australasia de resultados de exploración,
Recursos Minerales y Reservas de Mena. El Comité
Conjunto de Reservas de mineral ('JORC') se creó en 1971
y publicó varios informes quecontienen recomendaciones
para la clasificación y publicación de informes de Reservas
de Mena antes de la publicación de la primera edición del
Código JORC en 1989.
Ediciones revisadas y actualizadas en el Código se publicó
en 1992, 1996 y 1999. Esta edición de 2004 remplaza a
todas las ediciones anteriores.
Paralelamente a la evolución del Código JORC , Comité
Internacional Combinado paraNormas de Información de
Reservas('CRIRSCO'), en un principio el comité del Consejo
de Minería y Metalurgia (Instituciones 'CMMI'), desde
1994, han trabajando para crear un conjunto de
definiciones estándares internacionales para informar
sobre Recursos minerales y Reservas Mineras (ORE),
inspirada en las del Código JORC.
