EN LOS PRIMEROS QUINCE DÍAS DE VIDA

RESUMEN
El embrión temprano no es un simple tejido homogéneo e indiferenciado. El cigoto (o fase unicelular del
individuo) se constituye, a partir del material heredado de los progenitores, como una célula con organización polarizada y con una propiedad peculiar que la distingue de cualquier otracélula: contiene el plano de
las primeras divisiones celulares y se organiza en una unidad vital, tanto en sus estructuras espaciales como
en sus funciones. Es un organismo en su fase inicial más sencilla y no una mera célula. El concepto de
preembrión (aplicado al embrión preimplantatorio), como una fase del desarrollo en que no ha alcanzado el
carácter de individuo de la especie, por laposibilidad de dar origen por división a gemelos monocigóticos,
carece de fundamento biológico. Un embrión no se parte en dos mitades porque es asimétrico y las diversas células que lo componen son diferentes entre sí, desde el estado de dos células. El estatus del embrión
preimplantatorio (generado naturalmente o creado in vitro) es el mismo: individuo de la especie humana. In
vitro disminuyedrásticamente la capacidad de un correcto desarrollo, en simbiosis armonizada con la madre; pero no significa menor humanidad, sino que siendo un ser humano, se le ha generado y situado en unas
circunstancias en las que la capacidad de seguir viviendo está limitada.

ABSTRACT
The early embryo is not a simple homogenous, undifferentiated tissue. The zygote (or unicellular phase of
the individual) constitutes itself from the very material inherited from its progenitors as a cell with some
polarized organization and certain peculiar properties distinguishing it from any other cell: it contains the
map of the firstcellular divisions and organizes itself into a vital unity in both its spatial structures and own
functions. Rather than merely a cell, it is indeed an organism in its simplest initial phase. The “pre-embryo”
concept –as applied to the pre-implanting embryos– as undergoing a development stage at which the
condition of individual within its species has not been reached –due to the likelihood ofgiving origin to
monozygotic twins as a result from division– lacks biological grounds. An embryo cannot split into two halves
because it is asymmetric; moreover, even since the two-cell state, the diverse cells composing it differ from
different from each other. The status of any pre-implanted embryo (either naturally generated or created in
vitro) is in both cases the same: the quality of beingan individual belonging in the human species. Though
the in-vitro condition drastically impairs the embryo’s capability to develop properly in a harmonized
symbiosis process with the mother, this does not mean lesser humanity but the fact that a human being has
been generated and placed in a certain situation where the ability to persist in living is limited.
