BARACK OBAMA

He is the only African-American candidate and has a relatively short political career, but after surprising "caucuses" in Iowa, its presence gained strength. His speeches of social multiracial matters and fresh image are his main weapons in the presidential contest of 2008.

In late 2007, the competition for the Democrats seemed already to be determined: Hillary Clinton exceededBarack Obama in polls decisively, with an advantage of 20 to 30 regular points. Since January 3, Iowa was characterized by the surprise victory of the senator from Illinois and the disappointing third place of the senator from New York, the first breakthrough has been so fast that it is now placed at the top of the career in both polls and number of delegates.

If we pay more attention to theObama case, we are less able to explain the political factors which seem to be rational. His program is almost the same as Hillary’s. Many people agree that she has a better plan for universal health coverage and a lot of political experience. But certainly Obama has personal qualities outside common thought - intelligence, charisma, eloquence - and seems to hypnotize the masses of people whoattend his campaign events.
But to explain this enthusiasm must resort to other assumptions. The first is based on the ability of Obama, larger than Clinton’s, to make a change after years of the government of George W. Bush. Its superiority in this domain is based more in personal level than in political: his age, his personal history and their ethnicity are their winning cards in his way to power. But it is especially the page of Bush’s administration that Obama can turn with a massive change, both politically and symbolically. For certain sectors of Americans, Bush has always ruled with the idea of a country in a permanent "war against terrorism". The appeal of torture, extrajudicial procedures and violation of the right to defend the assertion of an imperial presidency: none of thislooks are like the image of their ideal country. Barack Obama, in his side, offered himself as an agent of redemption, as the very religious and largely unknown Jimmy Carter who volunteered in 1976 to restore the moral capital of the United States after the Vietnam War and the Watergate scandal.

On the external front, Bush’s administration focused in nationalism, unilateralism and arrogance.Obama, born from Kenyan father who lived in Indonesia in his youth, embodies internationalism, dialogue, miscegenation. That’s why he is the preferred candidate in the rest of the world: a subliminal signal that it is not insubstantial in Bush’s United States.

But let’s take a look in at a deeper level where racial factors are outstanding. The period of Bush is well known by the images of poor blackrefugees of New Orleans, trapped in the Superdome after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The election of the first black president, on the other hand, will connect again the historic moments of the abolition of slavery and the struggle for civil rights, and instantly regenerate moral capital squandered by George W. Bush and radically change the face offered by the United States to the world.

Obama’sspeeches are based on "hope" and "change", showing a new way of seeing things, on a more clear crystal were race is not a problem making the United States, a more strong country but with more values.

Lets give Obama the chance to project as a new president that idealizes the future with dreams, hope, peace and, above all, to change the country he loves.
