For certain sectors of Americans, Bush has always ruled with the idea of a country in a permanent "war against terrorism". Barack Obama, in his side, offered himself as an agent of redemption, as the very religious and largely unknown Jimmy Carter who volunteered in 1976 to restore the moral capital of the United States after the Vietnam War and the Watergate scandal.
