INTRODUCTION
This film is based on the terrible events that occurred in the Republic of Uganda from 1986 to 2006. Specifically the plot of the film was situated on the 1970s where thedictator Idi Amin’s was in the power and committed brutal episodes in the treatment of the civilians of the country.
The director, Kevin Macdonald from Scotland, is the winner of five Oscars and another eight nominations. He is not also well known for this film, he has also been recognised for other films such as Touching the Void, The Eagle or State of Play. This film is a mix of drama and historythat was recorded in 2006. The screenplay was written from two writers, Peter Morgan and Jeremy Brock.
There were about three main characters. One of them, and in my opinion the leading actor was James McAvoy. He played the role of the personal physician of the dictator (Nicolas Garrigan). James McAvoy was born in Glasgow (Scotland) and he discovered his interest in the film world when he wasjust sixteen. At the beginning he was not very convinced of it, but then he moved to London in 2000 and started more seriously his career as an actor. He has been much in demand, since he has en easy facility with accents. The second, but not less important actor is Forest Whitaker, who played the role of the dictator. He was born in 1961 in Texas (USA). His film debut was at the age of 21 in acomedy, where he played the role of a footballer, as he has been playing football because of a scholarship that he obtained in his childhood. People who know him, consider that he is an innocence and timid person and also he has a strong humanity. The third leading actress is Gillian Anderson. She was born in 1968 in Illinois, Chicago, USA. Since she was a child he loved the film world so sheparticipated as an amateur in the actor group of her High School. She played the role of a doctor (Sarah) that was married with the owner of the clinic where Dr. Garrigan went to help when he arrived to Uganda, and before the dictator started to have with him a very good relation, in spite of the advises that Sarah gave to Garrigan about him.
Rwanda which is located in East Africa is a tiny country buthas one of the most densely populated on earth. It´s population is around 12 million people. In Rwanda there are three ethnic groups, Hutu (84%), Tutsi (15 %) and Twa (1%).
The Rwanda genocide happened in the year 1994. It was a mass slaughter of an estimated 800,000 people. The conflict lasted approximately over 100 days. To understand why this conflict occurred we need to know a little bitabout the history. The Tutsis were more prominent in the royalty and hierarchy of the country but most of them were still peasants. The Hutus were the farmers and the Tutsis ran the cattle. During the time of European Colonization, the Belgians came to Rwanda and decided to further the gap between the peaceful Hutus and Tutsi. They took the Tutsi under their wing and gave them f. ex education. Inthose years most of the land and the power were in the hands of Tutsi even though they were only about 10 % of Rwanda´s population. In the year 1962, Rwanda gained their independence from Belgium. The Europeans, however, left the country in a state of discord due to the majority of Hutus who were able to gain back their power from the Tutsis. After years of conflicts the RPF (Rwanda PatrioticFront) invaded Rwanda and forced President Habyarimana to sign an accord stating that the Hutus and Tutsis would share power in Rwanda.
In 1993, the problems in Rwanda escalated and the Hutu president, Habyarimana was assassinated the 6 April 1994. Ethnic tensions heightened quickly. Within 24 hours after the president was assassinated Hutu had taken over the government and blamed the Tutsi for...
