The new view of reconstruction 1. The original view about reconstruction stated that sordidness was there in american politics and social life. Many people could agree that it wasjust about the darkest era in the American history. This view took a while to change due to the anti-Reconstruction propaganda of the southern democrats, it was the films like birth of a nation andgone with the wind that there was a trend of mystyfing events so that they could blame it on the south and be the victim of reconstruction. 2. They were seen as an inferior racethat was really ignorant and deshonest, also they were seen as people that didn’t have the skills or intelligence to work in politics. By this, people saw the black as if they were guilty of thefailure of reconstruction. (p.1, col.1,2, par.2) 3. The W.E.B. Du Bois sifnificance is to show the reconstruction point of view from the black, is also evidenciating that the whites still didnt treat theblack as people even when they were freed, dismantaling the traditional view on reconstruction. The reason why Du Bois credited reconstruction as a faillure was because Andrew Johnson desicions werereflected in the failure of the reconstruction, he was a racist person that wasntcommited and he made desicions that Lincoln would have never made and this damged the reconstruction integrity. 4. It was different because it wasnt racially based. This was more real. The new view of recontruction t wasnt so exagerated. (p.2,col.1, par. 2,3) 5. In the view of the revisionist,the period of reconstruction was of great progress and it was reflected in politics, society, and economic, it was because of the stablishment of public school sistems, equality citizenship to blacks,and purpose to restore the economy of the South after the war, all were being very much different from the traditional view at the begging of the reconstruction.
