El Laberinto del Fauno is a 2006 Mexican Spanish-language fantasy film, written and directed by Mexican film-maker Guillermo del Toro. Del Toro isfamous for his other fantasy films such as HellBoy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army. The film stars Ivana Baquero, Doug Jones, and Sergi López. It was produced and distributed by the Mexican filmcompany Esperanto Films. The score for Pan's Labyrinth, composed by Javier Navarrete,. Navarrete and the score were nominated for an Academy Award. It was entirely structured around a lullaby, and del Torohad the entire score included on the soundtrack. The film was selected by the Academia Mexicana de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas to represent the country in the Oscars for Best Foreign LanguageFilm.
El Laberinto del Fauno is a haunting fantasy-drama which takes place in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War. It is a journey of an imaginative young girl and his magical world. Her mother,Carmen (Ariadna Gil), recently remarried to a Spanish evil army captain Vidal (Sergi López) and soon to have his child. Shy young Ofelia (Ivana Baquero) is forced to entertain herself as herrecently-formed family settles into their new home in the Spanish countryside. As Ofelia's mother lies immobilized in bed in anticipation of her next child, her high-ranking stepfather remains determined tofulfill the orders of General Francisco Franco and destroy a nearby guerilla uprising which is taking place during the Civil War in Spain. Ofelia soon adventures into an elaborate stone labyrinth presidedover by the mythical faun Pan (Doug Jones). Convinced by Pan that she is the lost princess of legend and that in order to return to her underground home she must complete a trio of life-threateningtasks. She meets Vidal's housekeeper Mercedes (Maribel Verdú) and a doctor (Alex Angulo) who both plot secretly on the surface to keep the revolution alive. Ofelia’s mother later dies of health...
