As an absolute prototype of the Renaissance humanist man, Leonardo da Vinci will act as a painter, sculptor, engineer, musician, geometrician, and theoretician… a visionary whose reality will not bean appropriate framework for the complete development of his capacity. This might be the reason why his figure has come to the present time shrouded in mystery.
As it has been pointed out,throughout his whole life, his interest will focus on several subjects, but his mayor efforts will be devoted to the painting. Despite the fact that his work can be consider to be from the beginnings of theCinquecento, Leonardo’s spirit is timeless; therefore there are no capable limits to tight up his art definition.
However, it is possible to establish some of Leonardo da Vinci’s contributions tothe world of painting, materialized in the value placed on landscapes and atmospheres (which constitutes an important element to add to the whole work). The creation of the sfumato technique, theclassic symmetry of his compositions geometrically framed, besides the love of detail and veracity; responsible of the great importance this will grand to the knowledge of nature and to the priorpreparation to the execution of the piece.
