Analysis of cultural significance (the cultural context)
The Parthenon it is the greatest monument of the Athens of Pericles andreflected in the grand architecture and art, is built between 447 and 432 BCE its approximate dimensions are 69.5m long by 30.9m wide and 10.4m columns have tall, is dedicated to the goddess Athena,protector of Athens. Ictinus Architects and Callicrates, led by the Athenian sculptor Phidias, designed a building to house the giant statue of Athena, the work of Phidias, which guard in the cella oftemple. It is one of the most significant examples of Greek Doric order, but combines elements of Doric and Ionic so the result is a new architectural form that was called Attic. Such architecture,gave a remarkable cultural flowering of the arts and thought of citizens in Athens during the five century BCE, Culminating in the establishment of democracy.
The temple has 8 columns on the frontsand 17 on the side which together totals 46 Doric columns whose fuste, is of 10.43meters, is divided into 11 modules or drums are traversed longitudinally by ridges, couplet with sharp edges. Thecolumns do not have base, sit directly on the stylobate. The capitals are also Doric and consist of echinus and abacus, are attached to the shaft by means of a cove called necking and on them rest theentablature.

Studied the optical proportions to correct the optical defects generated by straight lines and create in theviewer an image of perfection.
