The introduction by Donno provides asolid foundation for the rest of the book to build upon, and the insight into the background of Machiavelli is essential to understand the perspective from which he writes. It appears as though Machiavelli had great confidence in what he wrote and took for granted that others would agree on his veiw points. There are many examples of the conversational tone such as the use of "I" found in many places, and a few examples are as follows: "...I say that republics have endured for many years.."
