Is the Volkswagen the people´s car? 80 years have passed and Volkswagen is still being the most popular car in theworld.

In the German language, “Volkswagen” literally means “people’s car”.

Before the 1930s, many efforts were made by Germans to create simple cars that everyone could afford, but non of thoseefforts was successful. In 1933, Adolf Hitler met whit Ferdinand Porsche, who in 1930 had set up an automotive design company, known as The Porsche Buro. In this meeting they wanted to discuss Hitler’sidea of a “Volkswagen”, a people’s car that could carry 5 people, cruise up to 62 mph return 33mpg and cost only 1000 Reich Marks (German’s silver money), so Porsche helped Hitler to get a real people’scar for German citizens. The first 3 cars of The V1 and V2 models were ready and tasted in 1935.

After II World War was over, British army took over the factory; they were interested in thefactory because the needed light transportation, so the factory was brought back up and by the end of the 1945 had produced more than 2000 cars. After the end of the 1945 the factory was named Volkswagen bythe British. In 1949, production increased. Volkswagen cars were being exported to neighboring European countries. In 1950s the company began to produce the beetle model in South Africa. In 1949 afew Volkswagen were imported to US but they did not gain popularity until later in the mid-1950s and 60s that had very successful campaign even with the Disney movie “Herbie” that also helped to promotethe beetle model.

People should know some similarities and differences between a “Sedan Volkswagen” (Beetle) and The New Beetle.

The Volkswagen Sedán and The New Beetle, both are made by theGerman Factory Volkswagen. The New Beetle was inspired in the Beetle concept. Not just in the outsider but even the insider of the new beetle is very similar to the beetle of the 50s.
