José Eloy Alfaro Delgado was born in Montecristi, Ecuador, on June 25 1842 – and he died in Quito January 28, 1912) was President of the Republic of Ecuador twice inperiods ranging between 1897 to 1901 and 1906 to 1911, general of Division of the army of Ecuador from 1895, and leader of the Ecuadorian liberal revolution (1895-1924). Because of its central role in thebattles of the revolution and conservatism have fought for nearly 30 years, it is known as the Old warrior. He’s height was 1.52
Alfaro started his struggle against the Catholic conservativessince the sixties of the 19th century, but the revolutionary forces named him Supreme Head of the provinces of Manabi and Esmeraldas, during their rebellion in February of 1883, which lasted untilOctober 11 of the same year, when it was organized a provisional Government that restored the conservatism in power. Alfaro had become one of the major opponents of the President Gabriel García Moreno andhis conservative line that continued in power even after his death.
On 5 June 1895, the town of Guayaquil is pronounced against the Acting President Vicente Lucio Salazar and named him Supreme head,so Eloy Alfaro returns to the country from exile in Panama and it starts and the liberal revolution and a short civil war that conquers the power.
On 17 January 1897 became Constitutional Presidentuntil September 1, 1901, whereupon it among his major accomplishments was the separation of Church and State. After his first Government, he supported his successor, Leonidas Plaza Gutiérrez,however, shortly afterwards, differences between the two emerged. Opposed against the Government of Lizardo García on 1 January 1906 and within days, on January 17, he proclaimed himself Supreme head andruled until the 12 August 1911.
