On February 26, 1993, at 12:17 noon was committed a terroristattack with a car bomb (a company truck Ryder) that housed 680 kilograms of explosives in the car parks of the north tower, located in the basement of complex WTC below 5. The attack wasintended to bring down the north tower on the south tower (which consequently would devastate Wall Street area), and although he failed, he produced six deaths and 1,042 wounded.On the morning of September 11, 2001 (day known as 9/11 or 11-S), the terrorist group al Qaeda hijacked two Boeing 767 of AmericanAirlines and United Airlines smashing each against both towers, in a coordinated suicide attack. The first crashed into the north tower (1) at 08:46, and the second crashed into the SouthTower (2) at 09:03. After that burn for 54 minutes, the South Tower (2) collapsed at 09:59, followed half an hour later by the North Tower (1). With the attacks on the World Trade Centerkilled 2,606 people (not counting those who died in the planes that hit the towers), 22 who were unable to leave the building by the destruction of the compartments of stairs, broken byBoeing 767 . When the Twin Towers fell, the surrounding buildings (WTC 3, WTC 4, WTC 5 and WTC 6), were destroyed by the great amount of material falling from the skyscrapers to the roofs ofthe buildings and columns. Around 17:20 pm that day, WTC 7 collapsed as a result of damage caused by the towers collapsed that morning and fires on the first floors of the building,although in the latter there were no collapse victims since the NYPD had evacuated all of Lower Manhattan during the course of the day. This attack was the worst disaster in New York to date.
