A film for improving our English skillsNowadays many teachers are worried about teaching methods; they believe that they could use many tools for applying in their classrooms, but they don’t how to take advantage; one of them is theuse of films. There are many ways for using films in lessons in order to increase knowledge and English skills. In this essay, I will focus just in two; listening and speaking skills. It’s essential tomention, the meaning of talking about this educational tool; and remark who had studied this topic before. However, using films for improving our English skills implies advantages and disadvantagesthat I will emphasis in following paragraphs.
Why films are useful in English teaching? This is the question that many teachers have; on the other hand specialists consider that films providestudents aspects about culture, language, tips of pronunciation, real view of the life or context, and in several cases; slang words. In many circumstances, films offer students the knowledge that inclass is difficult to be shown. According to Goodwin (2011), films are the best way to demonstrate and reference topics that the humanity is facing nowadays; He added that every student is able toapply the community language teaching. Allwright (1981) added the language lesson is an interaction between three elements: the teacher, the learners, and materials. The main idea is to plan activitiesthat contribute and support your class objectives; it doesn’t matter if you are going to teach history or science. I mean; you need to clarify what you want to teach and concentrate your activities inthe subject.
