WALKING TOUR GUIDE

The tour begin at the Pumapungo Museum, also known as the Central Bank Museum, is next to the site of Tomebamba, an ancient Inca city. It is an archaeological park is located inthe historic center of the Cuenca. Inside were the Temple of the Sun and the convent of the virgins of the Sun. The ruins are shaped by terraces, where products related to the cult to the Sun arecultivated and represented the spiritual ascent of the Incas.

Go out the Pumapungo Museum, go strainght on 3 de Noviembre Av. until at the corner and cross the street. Go up for one block on yourleft is Puente Roto. At the foot of this bridge the river Tomebamba. This is a historical testimony of the destructive force of the river Tomebamba. Today is a space for art and crafts center with saleof Latin American music gigs at parties November.

Continue north on 3 de Noviembre Av. from Puente Roto until El Vado bridge find the Barranco del Rio Tomebamba. The Barranco contains about 120architectural structures protected as property of the city. It is the most important symbolic environment of the city. The river Tomebamba and the Barranco as geographic features indelibly marked thecharacter of the historic city.

In El Vado bridge turn left cross the street. Go up for one block and turn right. Walk a half block, make a left and cross the street. In front for you there are stairsgo up these. There you will find the Cruz Del Vado. Located some minutes from the heart of Cuenca, this square characterizes for having the best overlooks to the city. Here the cross of Vado wasraised up as symbol of protection for travelers that had to cross the waters of Tomebamba River. The Vado was also known for his old cantinas where jukeboxes had made it a place for industry bohemia.From the Cruz Del Vado, go straight on Juan Montalvo Street for two blocks.
