This reading is part of the book “Night” by the Jew author, Elie Wiesel. It is based on the author’s experiences during World War II in the concentration camps. It was published inBuenos Aires in 1955, ten years after the war ended. This autobiographic book reflects the loss of faith and the cruelty against Jewish people in the concentration camp where Wiesel was.

Wiesel and hisfamily were sent to the concentration camps at Auschwitz and Buchenwald during the World War II. And he was liberated in 1945, he promised not to talk about this experience for ten years, after thattime period he wrote this story, he had troubles finding an editor to publish the book, but in 1960 Arthur Wang published it.

In 1986 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize because of hispublications deliver an important message of peace and human dignity. Today, Wiesel is a professor at Boston University and a political activist.

Plot:
The reading begins after New Year celebrations, thenews that there would be a selection spread throughout the concentration camp. Wiesel began wondering of his father can pass the selection. The Jewish were forced to run naked while a doctor was writingdown the number of the weakest prisoners to kill them. Tibi and Yossi, Elie’s friends, passed the selection, Elie too, and at the end of the process Elie and his father had a little conversation, hisfather also passed the selection. After that, the Kapos announced another selection. Elie’s father thought he will be selected, he gave Elie a spoon and a knife as inheritance because that was allthat he had. Elie thought his father was selected because everybody was considerate with him, but then he realizes his father escape from the selection.

Setting:
The set is the block 36 othe concentration camp. The concentration camp is where the Nazis concentrated the Jewish people. People did hard work here.
