The history takes place in India in 1938 during the independence period from British empire. In this story many characters take part, but the most important are Chuyia a little mischievousgirl, who was married since she was born. Unfortunately her husband died and she became a widow, for that reason, she was sent to a special house where others widows lived like Khalyani a beautifulyoung woman who was forced to have sexual encounters to earn money to pay the expenses in the house. One day, she met Narayan a young lawyer and they felt in love but they could no get married. Kunti wasa good friend to Chuyia she always took care of Chuyia.

The history took place in the times of Ghandi one of the most important heads in the Indian independence. The main subject in this story ishow widows are treated in india. There is a tradition that consist in engaging little girls since they were born without their knowledge and many time with old men, consequently, when they grow upthey became widow. They can not married again just with the younger brother of her husband if the family is agree or she can choose to be burnt with her husband. Chuyia suffered a big discrimination asKhalyani too. In the house they are forced to do thing against their wills. They do not have the right of falling in love and feel the real love. We could see this with Khalyani and Narayan. Theycould not be together because of the circumstances so, Khalyani decided to suicide.

To conclude, from my point of view I am not agree with story because any women in any country in the world can not behumiliated by the society that fallows ancient traditions. Who are they to do that? Indian women have to fight against anyone who does not respect the law that the government of Ghandi make in theirfavor. If I were one of the widows I would start a social revolution to recover our place in the society, and if found some oppositors to this in my country I would search for international help.
