The National Front.
In the year 1954 until the year 1974 there was a political group made between conservatories and liberals called national front, this front was burn or appears thanks to the idea of a better organization of the country after the dictation of Gustavo Rojas Pinilla because that kind of dictation was getting bad things to the traditional parties because it was deserting themfrom the government , for this reason the main characteristic of this front is to give equality to the parties in the alternation of presidents congress and many other things.
Soon the liberals and the conservators start to make the agreement of equality and unity this treaty was called the Benidorm that treaty was signed the 24 of July of 1956 by the conservator Laureano Gomez and the liberalAlberto Lleras, this traty make the real beginning of the National Front in which both parties will have equality in all government departments and the rotation of presidency.
were they talked about the decadency of democracy and also a way to solve this problem, the final agreement was signed the 20 of July 1957 between all the entire parties including Ospinist and liberals these treaty was called “La Declaracion de Sitges” both parties agreed to share the power during 16 years. After Rojas fail, a military group takes the power from the 10 of May 1957 to 7 of August 1958, in that time the idea of the National Front was exposed to all Colombians that took it with a great acceptation.
But really the idea of equality in parties was not a new idea, we can say that Rafael Reyes established aconcordance giving them equality but in the government that decision was criticized by most of the people in the party, giving him too much problems making him to quit. So when he left the “Republic Union“ was founded this union was consideretaded as other party with ideas of equality.
later the president Mariano Ospina Perez propose a “National Union” in 1946 it was started after he assumedthe presidency so this idea was assumed as a primitive idea of a national front . in this case was divided in halves the departmental governments and ministries but only until the 28 of February of 1946 was received by liberals ,when leaded by Jorge Eliecer Gaitan he decided to abandon the union because of politic convenience making that conservators administrated entire government
