Resumen: La raíz del odio contra España debe ser entendida como el miedo a unapoderosa nación que directa o indirectamente obedecía órdenes de Roma. Lógicamente, el mundo protestante difícilmente podía ver bien el hecho que un país católico con el historial militar más impecable de su tiempo amenazase al resto de los países europeos con una conquista religiosa y militar. Esta propaganda en contra de España no tendría la importancia que tiene hoy si se limitase a algo delpasado, a un periodo histórico de confrontaciones económico-religiosas.

Abstract: The root of the hatred against Spain must be understood as the fear of an extremely powerful nation which also directly or indirectly obeyed orders from Rome. Logically, the Protestant world could hardly look favorably on the fact that a Catholic country with the most impeccable military record of the period, wasthreatening the rest of the European countries with religious and military conquest. This propaganda aimed against Spain would not have the importance that it does today if it were limited to a thing of the past, to a historical period of economic-religious confrontations.

Viene al caso afirmar, que si bien este aparente interés por todo lo relacionado con este período histórico ha dado un empuje extraordinario a la historiografía hispánica, también ha dejado entrever una falta seria de rigor por parte de algunos estudiosos del tema. Quizás, haya sido un exceso de confianza en su carácterinterdisciplinario lo que ha hecho que muchas veces se hayan apreciado deficiencias y limitaciones tanto en el aspecto lingüístico-literario, como en el antropológico o histórico de la materia. De la misma forma, la falta de una presencia física, en las culturas motivo de sus análisis, por parte de algunos expertos en este campo, ha hecho que muy difícilmente o de una manera superficial se hayapodido trasmitir en palabras aquello que no se ha podido experimentar, “sentir”, directamente.
Although culture exist in the trading post, the hill fort, or the sheep run, antropology exist in the book, the article, the lecture, the museum display, or sometimes nowadays the film. To become aware of it is to realize that the line between mode of representation and sustantive content is asundrawable in cultural analysis as it is in painting; and that fact in turn seems to threaten the objetive status of anthropological knowledge by suggesting that its source is not social reality but scholarly artife (Geertz 16).
En el caso ibérico, donde la cantidad de manuscritos catalogados y sin catalogar es inmensa, sin un conocimiento profundo de la lengua --portuguesa o española--, es muy difíciltener acceso a documentación primaria de los siglos XV y XVI existente en los diferentes archivos peninsulares. Igualmente, sin un entrenamiento mínimo en Paleografía y Diplomática difícilmente se podrá trabajar con este material.
