In this essay I will talk about Ron Howard’s movie A Beautiful mind, and the psychological disorder that is shown there, thefilm is about John Nash a very inteligent mathematic that suffers from Schizophrenia, I chose to write about this movie because I’ve watched it recently and I found it quite interesting and emotive.John Nash the main character of the film suffers from paranoic schizophrenia, the diagnosis criteria for schizophrenia is the following,
1. Characteristic symptoms: Two (or more) of the followingsymptoms, each present for a significant portion of time during a 1-month period.
* delusions
* hallucinations
* disorganized speech
* grossly disorganized or catatonic behaviour* negative symptoms (lack of motivation)
2. Social/occupational dysfunction: For a significant portion of the time since the onset of the disturbance, one or more major areas of functioning suchas work, interpersonal relations, or self-care are markedly below the level achieved prior to the onset.
3. Duration: Continuous signs of the disturbance persist for at least 6 months. This 6-monthperiod must include at least 1 month of symptoms*
In the movie we can identify different symptoms and signs of the disorder: John Nash has many hallucinations;the first one was Charls Herman, acharcter that he met at Princeton and that became his best friend, after that Charles introduces him to his niece, another hallucination is Will Parcher a director from the US defense department. He alsosuffers from deliriums, he thinks that he is being followed because he Works for Will Pacher on a secret misión, so he thinks that he is being observed by the russians, he also presents disorganizedspeech he is unable to focus in some episodes of the sickness.
Negative symptoms are psychologic aptitudes that healthy people has, but that might be loost with the disorder, and in the movie they...
