Christmas
Holidays come once a year. It’s supposed to be a time of celebration and fun. You get together with your friends and family, laugh and share memories. Holidays may seem exciting but there are several effects that holidays can haveon family.
For some people it’s a very exciting and cheerful experience. There are presents, smiles, laughs, food and good feelings. You get to see family that you haven't been able to see forweeks, months and even years. Christmas is a time to share the joys of being together. Also we have a tradition that on certain holidays we eat the same types of food and dessert. For example, onChristmas Eve we eat turkey, romeritos, codfish and for dessert the typical apple salad.
But I say “Some people” because for someone not everything is joyful and exciting and cheerful. A good example ofthis is Mr. Scrooge form the book “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens. A Christmas Carol, although occurring at a different time period than today, still holds values and lessons that are importantin society today.
One of Dickens social concerns was the lack of sympathy or feelings that people have toward other people. In the story, Scrooge had no feelings toward his family or friends andheld a strictly professional relationship with them, creating a hostile bond between them.
Dickens shows a way to resolve the problem by simply treating others how you want them to treat you.Another social concern is the priority of family over money and personal gains. Money proves to be the golden idol that is worshipped by the people in the Christmas Carol, but also proves to destroylives.
