RESUMEN
Durante su vida científica Humboldt buscó siempre distinguir claramente la diferencia entre la pura descripción de la naturaleza y su verdadera historia. Su idea
universal era la idea del “Cosmos”. Propiciaba una descripción holística de la
Tierra, como naturaleza que obra simultáneamente, en todas sus estructuras y
funciones,como un organismo viviente. Entender esta dimensión fue su verdadera obsesión científica. Para lograr este objetivo Humboldt desarrolló lo que denominó “Naturgemälde” (Cuadros de la Naturaleza), los cuales expresaban la imagen total de un fenómeno natural cósmico. Esta visión de la naturaleza debía ser
general, grandiosa y libre, jamás estrechada por motivos de utilidad relativa.
El principiodel Tipo Dinámico y el de Compensación, son las columnas vertebrales sobre las cuales descansa toda su obra intelectual-científica. Alexander von
Humboldt se adelantó un siglo al saber científico de su tiempo y planteó los
fundamentos de lo que hoy conocemos como visión ecosistémica integral. Igualmente, este investigador plantea la existencia de una gradación vertical dentro del
paisajegeográfico, sus famosos pisos altitudinales. En los albores del siglo fija así,
para siempre y en términos absolutos, las coordenadas tridimensionales del escenario natural.

ABSTRACT
During his scientific life Humboldt always searched for clearly distinguish the
difference between a pure description of Nature and its true History. His universal
idea was that of the Cosmos. He favored a holisticdescription of the earth, as
nature that works simultaneously in all its structures and functions as a living
organism. To understand this dimension was his truly scientific obsession. To
achieve this objective, Humboldt developed what he called “Naturgemälde”
(Contemplations of Nature),which were supposed to express the complete image
of a natural cosmic phenomenon. This vision of nature shouldbe general,
grandiose and free; never constrained by pragmatic reasons.
The Dynamic Principle and the Compensation one, are the backbone upon which
Humboldt’s intellectual and scientific work is based. Alexander von Humboldt
was a century ahead in matters of scientific knowledge of his time. He pointed out
the fundaments of what we actually recognize as the Integral Ecosistemic Analysis.This scientist also proposed the existence of a vertical gradation within the
geographic landscape, his famous altitudinal belts. At the dawn of the century he
established -forever and in absolute terms-, the three-dimensional coordinates of
the natural scenario.

No es fácil intentar una visión completa de la
obra de un científico, sin correr el riesgo dedisminuirlo, por no sacar a la luz todo su aporte. Si
esto es válido para cualquier científico, lo es particularmente para el caso de Alexander von
