If you have been invited to interview with an US customer, these are the things you need to know before you begin your interview.
* Donot interview with a bad phone connection. Do not interview with too much background noise. Find a quiet place. Test the line first. If you interview using Skype video,make sure your visible background is not messy.
* Speak English slowly. If you are nervous, your English will speed up and you will not sound professional and calm.Practice speaking English slowly and clearly before your call.
* Think about your answers first. Don’t be afraid of the silence while you formulate an answer (as long asit does not take more than 10 seconds). Clients like consultants who think about their answers, but it is awkward when someone takes too long to answer questions.
*If at first you don’t know the answer to a question, ask the client to repeat the question in a different way or ask them to clarify the question. If you still do not knowthe answer, then say “I don’t know… but I would know exactly how to find out. I work with a team and we help each other find answers to questions we have.”
* Havequestions for the client. Never finish an interview without asking the client some intelligent questions. Clients like questions that are focused on the “technology” and the“business”. Don’t just ask about technology alone. Ask about the clients’ customers and what the technology purpose is. Ask questions like, “How does your company makemoney?” “How do you expect this new application to impact your business?” “Can you describe your most successful developer/engineer and tell me why they are so good?”
