Equality vs. Interests
In the Declaration the Independence, Thomas Jefferson stated that “all men are created equal.” That statement means that each person in the United States has the same rights.Even though each individual is unique and different, everyone has the right to have a family, to learn, to work, to be protected, to travel, and more. Essentially, we all have the right to make achoice for the destiny of our own life. Today, Jefferson’s declaration is not being respected at all. The United States is populated by a non-equal society, which shows people living in miserableconditions and others living an ostentatious life.

Thomas Jefferson was born in 1743, when the society was extremely unequal; African Americans had no right or freedom, women were not able to vote or tohave a job, and most of the people lived in poor conditions. Although his family was very accommodated and wealthy, they had almost sixty slaves. Therefore, why was Jefferson thinking about rights andfreedom, while sixty persons are were serving him? When he declared that “all men are created equal”, he was thinking only in the white people. Nowadays, the American society still discriminatesimmigrants and African Americans. While most of the people who were born in the United States live a comely life, Latin American´s life is going on decadence; and the reason is that their rights are notrespected. Mexicans and African Americans are discriminated everywhere. The reason is that we still think that people with dark skin are not the same as white persons. This stereotype is bringing thesociety to a more unequal situation.
On the other hand, the society equalization is in risk because of the interests of the wealthy population. One of the biggest problems in the United States is thewealth distribution.
