SCIENCE PRESENTATION.

Introduction:
The Paleozoic Era is one of the earliest and it was one of the fastest Geologic Eras.
The Paleozoic Era its divided into six geologic periods..

TheDevonian Period:
* It begins 412 million years ago and spans 58 million years.
* Its called the Age of Fishes.
* One type of fish, is the Ichthyostega, which resembled huge salamanders.

Whatdid earth's surface look like in the Devonian time Period?
* Most of the water was under water.

Continents of The Devonian

* During the Devonian there were important changes in the landmasses on the globe. North America and Europe had collided forming a large continent called Euramerica. This caused the formation of the Appalachian Mountain Range. The other large land mass wasGondwana. It was made up of South America, Africa, Antarctica, India and Australia. These two large land masses lay close to one another near the equator.
* The two continents were moving toward eachother throughout the Devonian Period.

Climate of The Devonian Period

* Laying so close to the equator meant that the climate of the Devonian was warm.

The Age of Fishes

* The DevonianPeriod is known as the Age of Fishes. It is famous for the thousands of species of fish that developed in Devonian seas. We know this because of the fish fossils found in Devonian rocks. When fishfirst started to develop, they had no jaws and the support structure was made of cartilage. This material doesn’t fossilize well, so the earliest fossils were of fish whose outside skin was protected byscales and plates made of boney tissue.

The Carboniferous Period

* begins 354 million years ago and spans 68 million years. It is the longest period of the Palaeozoic era.
* TheCarboniferous was divided into two geological periods, the Mississippian and the Pennsylvanian.
* Finishing the Pennsylvanian period the vertebrates star appearing.
