On October 30, 1996, Servando, on behalf of the community makes an international callfor relief through Spanish radio station COPE in which theyrequested urgent internationalintervention that would prevent the slaughter of refugees, which they perceived in that timeas imminent (transcript of the interview, 3 sound filewith the grabación4). On the morning of day 31, Servando phones in the morning at the General House of the Brothers in Rome and gives this message: You have leftthe field Nyamirangwe everyone. We are alone. We expect an attack from one moment to another. If this afternoon will turn to call a bad sign.Most likely, we removed the radio andphone. The area is very rough. Refugees flee without knowing where is notary and the presence of infiltrates and violent people. Later, at 13:50 hours adds, again we areleft alone, they will return again because refugees do not know where to go. We stay because we do not want-we mingle with the military or with groups armados.5 That evening, at 20 hours,Servando, was killed along with three other siblings. Most likely because it has become uncomfortable observer, and also because ofthe above request for help.
