The interior climate of a school building, the way it looks and how clean it is send either an encouraging or depressing message to students,parents, teachers, and staff. A positive environment can influence directly to positive attitudes and better performance.
There are several reasons to keep a clean school building. Researchshows there is a correlation between a clean school and students’ achievement. Maintaining a school campus clean can protect students and staff from health and safety issues; unclean restrooms with nowarm water, dispensable soap, paper towels can result in the spread of infectious disease. A clean school can promote parent involvement and a learning environment by providing a welcoming environmentlike benches for teachers to have an outdoor class and parents so seat and enjoy; a science garden that can be used to explore and make observations about life science, and other common attractive areaslike a playground or a track for the families to use after school.
If I were the principal of a school I would keep my school building and grounds clean and well maintained I would adhere tothe Spring Branch Independent School District (SBISD) goal to improve the condition of facilities. According to a district survey over 80% of staff and 87% of parents positively rated the cleanlinessand condition of facilities by given that 13 schools have been rebuild in the district, my prediction is that that number will increase to the target rate of 90% in the next five years. Although mycleaning and maintenance plan has limitations such as budget to spend and the ratio of custodians to square footage, (currently of1: 29.913 with a goal 1: 20, 000 in five years) there are things that Ican influence such as staff motivation and create a culture of belonging and common good.
