ESD CONTROL PROGRAM


1.0 Purpose
The purpose of this procedure is to document the key administrative and technical requirements of the ESD Control Program

2.0 Scope
This procedure applies to all the ESD Protected areas within the --- tools manufacturing processes where ESD sensitive products are handled.

5.0 Definitions.

ESD Protected Area (EPA)
A designated environment provided with materials and equipment to limitElectrostatic potentials.

6.0 ESD Control Program Plan
The controls referenced in this document have been selected to ensure that ESD sensitive devices (ESDS) that are susceptible to Human Body Model discharges of 1000 to 1999 volts will not be damaged. ESDS devices that are more sensitive may require additional control measures.

The basic guidelines that comprise the local ESD control Program areas follows:

1. All Electrical control module devices used on the --- family of tools are considered to be ESD sensitive.
2. All employees that handle ESD-sensitive products shall have successfully completed the company ESDS handling training class and must attend re-certification training every 24 months.
3. All employees shall be grounded when handling unprotected ESDsensitive devices.
4. Bare ESD sensitive products shall be moved between grounded workstations in metalized shielding bags. ESD Sensitive products are only to be handled in an ESD protected area by grounded employees.
5. All ESD control elements must be periodically verified per the compliance verification plan.
6. Non-essential insulators must be removed from the ESD ProtectedArea (EPA).

The ESD Control Program plan addresses each of the following requirements in the main body of the plan.


Administrative requirements:

Technical requirements:
• Grounding/ Equipotential Bonding system
• Personnel Grounding
• ESD Protected arearequirements
• Marking
• Handling


7.0 Training Plan

7.1 Initial Training:

ESD Awareness.
All --- --- manufacturing employees, subcontractors and visitors should be made aware of the use of ESDS devices in the work areas. In order to achieve this requirement, a plant wide ESD awareness session will be held with all employees across all shifts as well asall subcontractors present in the plant. An ESDS awareness flyer will be created to inform any new visitor or subcontractor attending the plant. The same ESD awareness session will be included as part of the induction training for new employees.


The ESD Awareness training material will include basic ESD definitions, reasons for control, areas affected (EPA), ESDS handling protocols,ESDS and EPA identifications.


The ESD awareness session will be provided by the --- plant training department personnel. The ESD awareness flyer will be designed by the --- plant training department personnel and distributed by the internal safety personnel as required to all visitors.


Training records for this awareness session will be maintained by the Training team withinthe Human Resources department at ---, ---.

ESDS Handling training.
Employees who handle ESD sensitive products (whether on a continual or intermittent basis) must attend initial ESD orientation.
