RESUMEN OBJETIVO
dos índices de peso y talla para la edad. En lactantes con lactancia mixta y artificial se observó mayor sobrepeso y/odesnutrición aguda. El tipo de lactancia más utilizada fue lactancia materna exclusiva.

MATERIAL Y MÉTODO
OBJECTIVE
Se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo en el Instituto Nacional de Salud del Niño, centro de referencia nacional,entre Septiembre- Noviembre del 2007. Se seleccionó aleatoriamente 250 niños entre 1-6 meses de edad de ambos géneros, para ser estudiados en consultorios externos. Se evaluó las medidas de talla, peso y perímetro cefálico. Asimismo, se recolectó los datos usando como herramienta una encuesta dirigida a la madre, tabulando y procesando los datos con el paquete estadístico SPSS 13, acorde aldiseño de la investigación.

MATERIAL AND METHODS
El porcentaje de lactantes eutróficos, de acuerdo al tipo de lactancia, fue el siguiente: 92,8% (129) en el grupo de lactancia materna exclusiva, 40,0% (34) con lactancia mixta y 34,6% (9) con lactanciaartificial. El porcentaje de lactantes con sobrepeso, de acuerdo al tipo de lactancia, fué: 47,1% (40) en el grupo de lactancia materna mixta, 46,2% (12) con lactancia artificial y 5,8% (8) con lactancia materna exclusiva. Los lactantes con desnutrición aguda, de acuerdo al tipo de lactancia, fue: 19,2% (5) en el grupo de lactancia artificial, 12,9% (11) con lactancia mixta y 1,4% (2) con lactanciamaterna exclusiva.
CONCLUSIONES
An Observational – descriptive study was conducted at the Instituto Nacional de Salud del Niño from September to November 2007. We randomly selected 250 children between 1 and 6 months of age from both genders, being studied in outpatient consults. We evaluated measures of height, weight and head circumference., we also collected data using a survey as a toolaimed at the mother. We conducted the tabulation and processing of data with the statistical package SPSS 13, according to the research design.

CONCLUSIONS
The higher percentage of eutrophic children with adequate indices of weight and height for age were the infants with exclusive breastfeeding. . It was found in infants with mixed and artificial breastfeeding were more overweight and/or had more acute malnutrition. The most used type of breastfeeding was exclusive breastfeeding.
