The Star-Spangled Banner (La Bandera Llena de Estrellas) es el himno de Estados Unidos. La letra proviene del poema “Defensa del Fuerte McHenry”, unpoema escrito en 1814 por el abogado y poeta principiante, Francis Scout Key, durante el bombardeo del fuerte por la marina inglesa. Se dice que Key escribió el poema ante la emoción que lo embargó al ver el izamiento de la bandera al final de la batalla.El poema tiene la tonada de una canción popular británica, compuesta por John Staffor Smith para un club social de Londres. Esta era muy popularenEstados Unidos y se usaba varias letras. Una de ellas el “The Star-Spangled Banner“, la cual era una conocida canción patriótica.La canción fue reconocida como himno por la Marina en 1889, por el Presidente en 1916 y recién por resolución congresal el 3 de marzo de 1931, siendo firmada por el presidente Herbert Hoover.
