PARTE PRIMERA ACTO PRIMERO LIBERTINAJE Y ESCANDALO Hostería de Cristófano Buttarelli. Puerta en el fondo queda a la calle: mesas, jarros y demás utensilios propios de semejante lugar. ESCENA PRIMERA (Don Juan, con antifaz, sentado a una mesa escribiendo. Buttarelli y Ciutti, a un lado esperando. Al levantarse el telón, se ven pasar por la puerta del fondo máscaras, estudiantes y pueblo con hachones, músicas, etc.) DON JUAN: ¡Cuál gritan esos malditos! Pero ¡mal rayo me parta si, en concluyendo la carta, no pagan caros sus gritos! (Sigue escribiendo.) BUTTARELLI: (¡A Ciutti.) Buen carnaval. CIUTTI: (A Buttarelli.) Buen agosto para rellenar la arquilla. BUTTARELLI: ¡Quiá! Corre ahora por Sevilla poco gusto y mucho mosto. Ni caen aquí buenos peces, que son casas mal miradas por gentes acomodadas, y atropelladas a veces. CIUTTI: Pero hoy... BUTTARELLI: Hoy no entra en la cuenta, se ha hecho buentrabajo. CIUTTI: ¡Chist! Habla un poco más bajo, que mi señor se impacienta pronto. BUTTARELLI: ¿A su servicio estás? CIUTTI: Ya ha un año. BUTTARELLI: ¿Y qué tal te sale?

FIRST PART ACT ONE LICENTIOUSNESS AND SCANDAL The Inn of Cristófano Buttarelli. A door at the back leads out to the street: tables, jugs and other utensils appropriate for such a place. SCENE I (Don Juan, masked, seated at atable, writing. Buttarelli and Ciutti, to one side, waiting. As the curtain rises, in the background one can see through the door at the back people wearing masks, students, people with torches, musicians, etc.) How they shout those devils! Let me be damned by forked lightning if when this letter I’m writing is done, I don’t end their revels! (He continues writing.) (To Ciutti) A good Carnival. (ToButtarelli) A good harvest for re-filling the coffers. Hey! No fun and plenty of bother running around in Seville’s dust.
