Celebrate Service is coming ……. the week of June 25th 2012

Celebrate Service returns to recognize the hard work and dedication of the more
than 330,000 IHG corporate and franchise employees around the globe.


Last year we shared various fun and engaging ideas that many hotels enthusiastically implemented throughout our Holiday Inn Brand Family. This year we encourage all HolidayInn and Holiday Inn Express hotels to get involved, be creative, and celebrate a week of service.

Start planning now on how your hotel will participate and celebrate!


Celebrate Service ideas:


Welcome to Work
Have the senior management team arrive extra early and welcome each AM team member as they arrive. Provide with coffee, juice, donuts, etc and have an informal socialevent pre-shift. Do a similar event for the PM team; provide lemonade, sodas, cookies, chips, etc.

Daily Theme ideas:
Each day create a theme that expresses how important each team member is to the success of the hotel. Suggested food items may include: popcorn, cookies, pizza, donuts, bagels, and ice cream.

Monday: Share foods that are round to signify that teamwork is a circle;everyone is part of the whole circle
Tuesday: Share foods that have a hole to signify "without you, our team isn't complete or whole”
Wednesday: Share foods that are cold to say that we need to refresh our ideas, our spirit, and commitment
Thursday: Share foods that are small (popcorn, jelly beans) to signify that everyone is important
Friday: Share foods that are spicyto signify the diversity each person bring to the team and their uniqueness

Send a note home
Mail a note to each employee’s home, let the children/spouse/family know what a valuable member of the Holiday Inn / Holiday Inn Express team their parent/spouse/son/daughter is, and that you appreciate them “sharing” their parent/partner/son/daughter with the hotel. Add appropriate positivementions per employee – i.e., (name) can be counted on, helps out other team members, goes out of their way ….etc.

Celebratory Lunch
Have a special lunch to celebrate the launch of Celebrate Service. Create a special menu of foods the team enjoys. Recognize the team for the great service they provide in creating “GREAT HOTELS, GUESTS LOVE”.


Cook/Grill Out
Have a lunch torecognize Celebrate Service week with Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, etc. Consider asking the GM or the senior Management team work the grill. Thank the team the great service they provide and for creating “GREAT HOTELS, GUESTS LOVE”.


Managers Serve Lunch/Managers pot luck
Have a special lunch to celebrate the launch of Celebrate Service where the senior management team cook the food or run thebuffet; ask each manger (and/or employee) bring in a signature dish.


Lunch out of the Ordinary
Have a picnic with the team somewhere out of the ordinary, nearby park, by the hotel pool, in a corner of the parking lot, in the Great Room, etc.

Ice Cream Social/ Cart Service
Have the GM and senior managers tour the hotel mid-afternoon with a cart featuring sodas, waters, iced tea, anIce Cream sundae bar [is this tourable?] or novelty ice cream bars, etc. Visit each area/floor of the hotel and offer the team refreshment.

Group activities:

Hotel Olympics
Have an afternoon of fun with ‘Olympic themed’ competitions among the staff. Housekeeping cart relays, beverages on a tray race, towel folding competitions, bed making, etc.

Recommended by a hotel [do we want to say which one?]: All you have to do is get the tools/supplies for each game and let the team members have some fun!  We played the same games twice in the week and the winners from each day went to a "Showcase Showdown" on Friday. The games were a BIG hit!
