Chapter 8
Snow white

As Walt was always pushing the boundaries and looking for his net big idea for cartoons, he and his artist perfected sound and color, but it didn’t stop there
in 1933 hedecided to make a full length film, as all the cartoons of that time lasted only a few minutes. and he knew that kids would like it as they spent hours watching different cartoons of Mikey at thetheaters.
But that he knew that full length animated movie would need more that humor, it had to have a story with romance and drama and excitement. So they picked the famous fairy tale Snow White and theSeven Dwarfs.
It took years and a quarter of a million drawings for the eighty-three minute movie. And as Walt was in charge of every step of production he acted out scenes for his animation team sothey would copy expressions and movements into their drawings.
He wanted each character to seem as real as a live actor, so the people would feel each emotion.
Also the backgrounds were important, sothey use a special multi-plane camera that makes everything look three-dimensional so it looked like it was in a solid and real space.
For the money to make Snow White the studio borrowed more thanone and a half million dollars, Roy was in charge of it, the hardest job, so the studio took a big risk, so the day of the opening of the movie came.
On December 21, 1937 at the Carthay Circletheater in Los Angeles and with a great audience including Famous Hollywood stars were gasped at the beauty of the film. So Snow White became a masterpiece, and Walt won a special Academy Award. Over thenext few years Disney produced three more wonderful movies, but none matched the film Snow White.
