Critical Response “Pride and Prejudice”
Pride and Prejudice is a novel by Jane Austen, it was first published in the year 1813.The story is about a girl, Lizzy, who has four sisters and a mother whois desperate to get married all of her daughters with wealthy and respected man. All the girls get really excited when new men arrive to the town, except Lizzy who was more into literature and moreintellectual subjects. She gets upset when she meets Mr. Darcy a wealthy but disrespectful and pride man. Throught the story their pride and prejudice stars to transform into feelings for each other. The book was excellent because apart from the good story it takes you to another place.
It was a pleasure to read this book, there were amazing characters, some jokes and what I liked the most wasthe setting, the way they dress and also It´s quite interesting to know about old fashion tradition and costumes.
Characters play a significant role in the book; they are the ones who give life tothe story and make you feel more close to it. Even when characters have the same social context and are part of the same family, Jane Austen manages to give a specific personality to each one of them. You can see Jane´s personality, always very tidy, well educated and with more manners than their sisters. Lizzy is a little bit different from the girls of that time. She is interest in other thingsthan marriage, like literature. She is also really simple, for example we can see that she has no problem in walking to see her ill sister to the Bingley ´s house. She does not worry about what peoplemight say about her, she is just herself at all moments. The younger sisters are full of energy and as they are very young they have immature actions. They wanted to marry someone handsome and withall the qualities their mother is looking for. We cannot forget Mrs. Bennet, an average woman who among everything wants to see her daughters get married. She gives the funny touch to the plot.
