Lesson 1.1- what is an animal

Today I will
1. Describe levels of organization in animal bodies
2. Identify 4 functions that enable animals to meet their basic needs
3.Explain how animals are classified

Organization by:
* Cells
* Tissue
* Organ
* System
The cells of most animals are organized into higher levels of structure, includingtissues, organ, and system.
Major functions of animals
1. Obtain food and Oxygen
2. Keeping conditions stable – homeostasis
3. Movement
4. Reproduction
Classification-invertebrates
-Vertebrates
-arthropods

Lesson 1.2
Symmetry Balance arrangement of part
Radial: many lines of symmetry that go through a central point. Simpler, live in water,body plan in circular patterns senses of touch and taste in all directions.
Bilateral: the line of symmetry divides the organism into halves that are mirror images. Often larger morecomplexes. Stream like bodies move quicker, Senses are in the front of the body.

Lesson 1.3
Today I will….
* Describe main characteristics of sponges
* Describe maincharacteristics of Cnidrians
* Explain the important of coral reefs

Sponges phylum Porifera have pores
They
* Do not move
* Take food and o2 through waterremove waste with water current
* No symmetry and no tissues or organs
* Hollow bag with a large opening on top
Important cells:
* Pore: water waste move through it
* Collarcells: created currents
* Jelly like cells: digest, remove waste, become egg or sperm
* Spike: skeleton

Asexual reproduction is boding

Cnidarians
* Phylim cnidarians orcoelenterats
* 2 body plan
Polyp and medusa
Cnidarians use stinging cell to capture food and defense. They have radial system and a central hollow carity
