The conflict in Syria began on 15, March, 2011, The Syrian army was deployed to open fire to civilians . The situation Evolved to an armed rebellion, the opposition grew andbecame more powerful and better equipped, some groups also were receiving military aids from Several foreign countries.
The Syrian government informed that the opposition are terrorist groups,however, they are not organized.
The European Union, The United States and The Arab Union have expressed their discontent and opposition against the use of violence.
On the other hand, Russia and Chinahave opposed to the UN resolution condemning Bashar al Assad actions, saying that UN's way of resolving the situation could provoke foreign military intervention.
In order to stop the conflict, theUN sent Koffi Annan as sponsor of peaceful arguments, On 15 July 2012, the International Committee of the Red Cross assessed the Syrian conflict as a "non-international armed conflict".
Between 40000and 50000 people have been killed during the conflict, of which ,ore than half were civilians.
Position
Since the British government has been working with the UN to stop thehuman rights violations and deteriorating humanitarian situation and in resolutions adopted by the Human Rights Council.
The U.K will continue working to stop the violence in Syria, The Foreign Affairsoffice will talk to the European Union to command to the european countries to discuss sanctions for the syrian government. to push for implementation of the Annan plan as the internationally-agreedroad map to end the violence and finally to ensure justice, accountability and humanitarian assistance for the Syrian people.
The UN, the European Union and the Arab Union must act together to sendhumanitarian help for the civilians harmed during the civil war.
