Autobiography of a poet, painter, engraver and intellectual; William Blake
When I sit back and consider the relevant events in my past, the important aspects of my current life, and my future goals,I feel confident that one day, perhaps I’ll make a difference in this world with my poems.
I was born in Soho, London on the 28 of November of 1757 as the product of two affectionate parents. Ididn’t attend school but my mother educated me at home with passion and dedication. Since my first steps, I was exposed to the great influence of the Holy Bible of which served me as a great source ofinspiration in my future poems. I was quite a bizarre child as I recall my father buying antiquities for me to engrave, which consequentially led to my first steps as an artist. As a child I was fascinatedwith the fantastic pieces that artists such as Raphael and Michelangelo crafted with such privileged precision. This passion for art later guided me towards poetry and I began to find myselfsubmerged in a deep puddle of unanswered queries questioning life.
As I grew from adolescence into adulthood, I continued writing poetry, professionally at this stage, As I walked through the streets ofLondon I was repulsed and baffled for what I saw, filth, disease, death, anarchy were destroying what was supposed to be the world’s greatest city. All these dismal images inspired me to write a poemcriticizing London, hence its name; the poem captures the essence of what this supposedly great city actually has due to corruption and greed. Alongside this I could appreciate certain pro-industrymovement developing; the wealthy company owners were exploiting humble workers with minimum remuneration with the purpose of boosting the hell-like revolution of mere iron. Ironically I could see dazedworkers spending their meager wages in banalities such as alcohol and prostitution, which lead me to appreciate William Hogarth’s English ale scene named ”Gin Lane” that depicts what is experienced...
