Mike Davis, City of quartz, Fortress L.A.This particular chapter of City of quartz is centered in the concepts of privacy, public and security; privacy is the ability for a person, object or information be in anonymity from the public eye,public as its Latin roots populous indicates it is some thing that is meant to be for the people, that is really to the eye and free use of people in general with out an exception, security is basicallythe protection against some dangers of the world like damage loss and crime; these terms can be related directly to one word culture, in this chapter Davis makes a serious critic to those concepts andthe role the architects had to do with it; are Davis critics true?

Davis makes this chapter an allegory of the construction of modern Los Angeles as a prison made by architects. He sais that spaceand public space, more exactly, are not real, these is implied by him saying that architects and architectural schemes provide a ‘neo military’ style that simply searches for security efforts, thedestruction of the city is also coming by replacing old buildings with new gentrified history, he implies that Frank Gehry’s work “clarifies the underlying relations of repression, surveillance, andexclusion that characterize the fragmented, paranoid spatiality towards which Los Angeles seems to aspire”; he also talks about the relation that military efforts have to do with the public and privateterm.

In the modern culture in which Davis stands architects have learned that public a private have to do a lot with cultural behavior and social conditions in which the civilization stands on,Davis point of view is a positive and also negative perspective of those terms, in a culture that is full of thieves and people that tries to do anything to harm their equals public spaces can not be...
