Case study 1
One of the strategies to use in the traditional approach is Synthetic phonics, teaching the letter sound and making the connection, mixing, allowstudents to recognize and to try new words. This will enhance not only the repertoire but they will learn how to write the new words too. This strategy is very importantbecause students need to learn what each letter sound represents its name before they move into anything else. (Vacca, 231)
Spelling –base instruction (Vacca,p 234)is very important because we have to identify what level the child is. I can accommodate books base on his/her level according to what they know. This strategy willallow me to encourage those low readers to advance into a harder words book faster than just leaving them with only books they are comfortable. This strategy allows theteacher to split students into groups that are reading books in the same level. I will also incorporate pair them up low and higher reader together so one can helpthe other.
Another strategy to use is the making words, as is stated in our textbook (Vacca, p 240) when a child learn how to use the word known and how this word maybe part of another word is a challenge that makes them think forward. One activity that I will use is to guess game one student in a small group will show hispartners his part of the word and everyone else will guess what word is. Using a flip flop chart will help them to construct and learn new words.
