The 10 most common diseases that science still can´t cure
1. Cancer
Is One of the most common and dangerous diseases of our time. Is the abnormal growth of malignant cells in the body. It is believed that 1 in 3 people are susceptible individuals. According to the American Cancer Society, 7.6 million people died of cancer in the world during 2007. Sometimes, given the current inability of scienceto cure the most aggressive cancers in advanced stages of evolution, it is preferable to give up curative and palliative treatment applied to provide the least possible discomfort and lead to a dignified death.
From the 1990's and therapeutic techniques available, cancer is curable in about 50% of patients diagnosed.
2. Alzheimer
Is a Neurodegenerative disease of unknown cause. It is one of themost difficult to treat and deal with. It causes cognitive impairment, behavioral disorders and memory loss. The International Day of Alzheimer held on September 21st, a date chosen by the WHO and the International Federation of Alzheimer's, which are held in various countries activities to raise awareness and help prevent disease.
There are differences in incidence according to gender, as it showsa higher risk of disease in women, particularly among the population over 85 years. By 2010 the Alzheimer's Disease International has estimated a prevalence of dementia of 4.7% worldwide for people aged 60 years or more, representing figures upward on several previously published studies (10% higher than those estimated for The Lancet in 2005).
It has been proven the effectiveness ofacetylcholinesterase inhibitors have an inhibitory action of cholinesterase, the enzyme responsible for breaking down acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter lacking in Alzheimer's disease and substantially affects memory and other cognitive functions).
3. AIDS
It was the illness of the twentieth century. Caused by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is an infectious disease with serious consequences. There havebeen great advances in medicine but no known cure. At least they have gotten the disease is chronic. The chances of a cure are certainly remote, so the current research efforts focus more on getting some kind of vaccine to prevent new infections.
4. Lupus
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease. It is unpredictable and can cause arthritis, anemia, rashes, etc. In addition,specific attacks internal organs such as kidneys, lungs or to the heart.
Lupus is most common in Asians and Africans and is 9 times more common in women than in men. The first manifestations of the disease are frequently observed between 15 and 44 years old. Although so far there is no cure, the symptoms are treated mainly with low-dose corticosteroids, immunosuppressive and anti-malarials such ashydroxychloroquine.
5. Diabetes

Diabetes mellitus is a disease but a syndrome unique, so this term includes now turn to a variety of different conditions but with one thing in common: hyperglycemia and itsconsequences.
By 2000 it was estimated that about 171 million people were diabetic in the world and reach 370 million in 2030. This condition causes various complications, often damaging the eyes, kidneys, nerves and blood vessels.
