➢ INTRUDUCTION:

I’ve been always interested in science, technology and astronomy. After the school I would like to study forindustrial engineering or telecommunication engineering, so I decided to make my internship at ESAC because I thought that working for a week in this company could give me an idea of what is really workingin a enterprise and also because ESAC was involved in lots of activities that I found interesting.




















Company presentation:

ESAC, the European Space AstronomyCentre, is the ‘home’ of ESA’s space-telescope and planetary missions, the place from where science operations are conducted, and where all of the scientific data produced are archived and madeaccessible to the world.
Nowadays, ESAC’s main activities are:
➢ Science Operations Centers for astronomy and planetary missions (Annex 1)
➢ Science Archives and Virtual Observatory (Annex 2)
➢ EarthObs. SMOS Spanish National Centre
➢ Space Situational Awareness
➢ Satellite Tracking Station (-> Cebreros)
There are almost 309 persons working at ESAC wich are classed depending on theirnationality, sector and activity inside the SRE (Annex 3)
These are the main historical milestones of the company:
➢ 1978 : VILSPA, opening of ESA Villafranca Satellite Tracking Station, support to IUE➢ 1995 : ISO launch and ISO Mission and Science Operations Centres
➢ 1999 : XMM-Newton launch and Science Operations Centre
➢ 2004 : VILSPA became ESAC reflecting extension of activities1) Planetary missions

Why this name? as the Rosetta stone did, it is hoped this this mission will help unlock the secrets of how our solar system looked before planets formed....
