Euthanasia or mercy killing is the termination of a very sick person´s life in order to relieve them of their suffering.
A person who undergoes euthanasia usually has an incurable condition relatedto physical or psychological factors . also exist other instances where some people wants their life ended.
In many cases, it is carried out at a person´s request ( voluntary euthanasia),or if theperson is too ill, the decision is made by relatives,medics or the courts( non- voluntary euthanasia)
Euthanasia can be passive or active. In the active one a person deliberately and directly causesthe patient´s death by an act. For example when somebody is killed by being given an over dose of pourkillers.
Euthanasia comes in several different forms each of which brings a different set ofrights and wrongs. Active euthanasia is
When death is brought by an omission ex. When some let´s the person die switching off a machine that is keeping a person alive.
Traditionally passive euthanasiais thought of a less bad than the active one- on the other hand some think active euthanasia is morally better.
Nowadays, euthanasia is at the center of very heated debates in many countries and issurrounded by religious, ethical and practical considerations. Euthanasia is against the law in U.K.
Voluntary eythanasia or assisted suicide can lead to imprisonment for up to fourteen years.
Asusual, arguments for and against euthanasia are raised among society . As regards arguments based on rights we can say:
* People have an explicit right to die.
* Death is a private matter and isthere is no harm to others, the state and other people have no right to interfere.
* Assisting a subject to die might be a better choice than requiring them continue to suffer
